Global Short Film Network- Short Films for ministry

Global Short Film Network The Global Short Film Network is a ministry strategy that was developed by The JESUS Film Project to train people around the world how to create and use short films to engage in spiritual conversations. On the website you can access films to watch/download, training materials and question guides for each film. Many of the films have been produced by the staff, students and partners around the world. Also, there are a handful of films that were produced by filmmakers who have given permission for the films to be used for ministry.

Short Film Strategy Outreach

It has been some time since my last post.  I have been busy working on a very exciting outreach strategy that utilizes short films to start spiritual conversations.

As part of my ministry work with The JESUS Film Project (a ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ) we have been testing the use of short films for outreach around the world over the last two years.  With the field test that we have done we have found what worked the best in one-on-one, small group and large group settings.  As a result, we have produced a DVD with 11 short films that will soon be available to purchase.  My team lead a seminar a few weeks ago at the National Outreach Convention in San Diego sharing and showing how a church can use the short film DVD to reach their community.

I am excited about all the potential uses with the DVD tool.  Some churches are using it for church planting and established churches are using it to reach their community.  The DVD is subtitled into 9 languages too.  To find out more about the Short Film Stategy visit the Global Short Film Network website.

New Blog- Church Video Reviews

I wanted to let you know that I have started another blog about church and ministry video tools. Many churches, perhaps your own, are incorporating videos into their services, classes or ministry events.

This new blog takes a look at videos and tools that have been produced and were you can get them. You can search for videos from multiple video download distributors all in one location. It is my desire to do regular reviews about church and ministry videos, presentation software and special offers available. Check it out at

Church and Ministry Video Lens

There are a lot of great distributors and content creators of church and ministry videos. These are the type of short video or film pieces that you would show at a ministry event or during a church service. You will find that not all of the content creators are listed with the distributors. I have created a Ministry and Church Videos “one stop shop lens” at Squidoo to help you or your church find a video for your ministry needs. If you don’t mind, please take a moment to fill out the short poll. This will help me know how to build a “lens” that people want to see.

“Purple” from 36 Parbles

PurpleThe guys at 36 Parables have completed their latest DVD, Purple, based on the parables of Christ. It soon will be ready for shipment. Here is what you will find.

Out of Reach: based on the Parable of the Friend at Night (Luke 11:5-8)
The Car Lot: based on the Parable of the Shrewd Manager (Luke 16:1-13)
Sean: based on the Parable of the Barren Fig Tree (Luke 13:6-9)

On the website you can watch the trailers for each film. They even have the film, Found, from their first DVD, Yellow, that you may download for free.

These DVDs are a great tool for evangelism and Bible Studies. 36 Parables has a resource center on their website where you can get access to Bible Study for each film that has been produced so far.

“Most”- A Movie That Parallels The Easter Story

I had an opportunity to preview “Most“.  This powerful movie, released in 2003, is a great tool to use for your Easter outreach. Here is an excerpt from the website.

“Between now and forever lies…the bridge. A powerful and moving film about a man who learns the true meaning of sacrifice. “MOST” is the story of an ordinary man forced to make an extraordinary decision. Shot entirely on location in the Czech Republic and Poland, “MOST” is a beautiful yet edgy film that draws you in and grabs your heart. In Czech “MOST” means,  bridge. In this film, “MOST”, simply put, is the bridge between now and forever…lives forever changed.” Click here for more information.

Guide for Creating Short Films and Videos

Current is a new breed of television network created by you and others like you. Their network is driven by a community of people who submit short films and news segments that are first viewed online and if given the green light are shown on the Current network.

To help you learn how to create films and segments they have put together an excellent guide on how to tell your story, choose the right gear, how to shoot and edit and compress the finished piece. This is a great guide to reference if you are producing short films and videos for your church or ministry. Check out Current’s Survival Guide here.
